Swimming pool construction in Bali

A pool in Bali is a structure first and a lifestyle feature second: a reinforced-concrete vessel holding tens of tonnes of water against ground that moves, rain that floods and sun that never lets up. We build pools the way we build everything else on this island — engineered shell, documented waterproofing, a flood test before a single tile goes on, and one fixed written quote covering structure, finish and equipment. The same company that builds the villa builds the pool, so nobody argues later about whose crack it is.

  • Reinforced-concrete shells, engineered
  • Flood-tested before finishes
  • Fixed written quote before we start
Villa swimming pool in Bali with stone surround, built and water-tested by our crews

Our pool leak detection crews have spent years inside other people's pools, and that experience wrote this service. Almost every failing pool we survey failed the same way: a shell cast without a stated concrete grade, pipework buried without a pressure test, waterproofing skipped because the tiles would hide it, and a first fill that doubled as the first test. So we build pools in the reverse image of those failures — every stage that will be invisible later is tested and photographed while it can still be fixed cheaply.

The contract reads like all our contracts: a fixed itemised quote separating shell, waterproofing, finish and equipment; a programme; weekly photo reports; and a written workmanship warranty. Whether the pool is part of a villa build or a standalone job in an existing garden, you get the same paper trail — including the flood-test record showing the shell held water before the finish went on.

The shell: concrete engineered like a building

A pool shell carries water pressure from the inside, ground and groundwater pressure from the outside, and — on Bali's clays and slopes — movement from below. We engineer the shell from the site's soil data, cast it with the rebar and concrete grade written in the quote, and cure it properly before anything else happens. Structural pools on terraces, decks and rooftops are detailed together with our structural waterproofing team, because a suspended pool is a basement in reverse: the water must stay in with the same certainty that groundwater must stay out. The rooftop pool at our SUOM complex sits over occupied space — the least forgiving position a pool can have.

Waterproofing and finish: tested, then tiled

Waterproofing is a system, not a coating: the concrete itself, the membrane or crystalline layer, the detailing at every penetration — lights, returns, skimmers, drains — and the finish that protects it all from pool chemistry and UV. The order of work is what separates a twenty-year pool from a two-year one. We pressure-test every buried line and flood-test the bare shell over several days, and only then release the finishing crew to lay stone, tile or mosaic. If a pool ever does lose water later in its life, the same company that built it runs the island's dedicated pool leak detection and repair service — and our guide to evaporation versus a real leak shows how we tell the difference before anyone drains anything.

Equipment: sized to the water, not the brochure

Filtration in a tropical climate works harder than anywhere else: warm water, heavy organic load, daily use. We size pumps and filters to the pool's actual volume and turnover, plan a plant space that can be serviced without acrobatics, and commission the system with you or your villa manager present. Heating, jets and spa features follow the same logic — our hot tub and spa servicing team maintains what we install, which keeps the specification honest. Everything lands in the handover file: equipment manuals, as-built pipe runs and the warranty in writing.

SCOPE OF WORK

What's included

  • Survey & engineering

Site survey, soil data where the structure needs it, and a shell design with stated concrete grade and reinforcement.

  • Reinforced-concrete shell

Formwork, rebar and monolithic pour by our own concrete crews, cured and checked before the next stage.

  • Waterproofing system

Membrane or crystalline waterproofing with every penetration detailed — then a multi-day flood test on the bare shell.

  • Pipework & hydraulics

Circulation lines, skimmers or overflow channel, and returns — every buried line pressure-tested before it is covered.

  • Finish & surround

Stone, tile or mosaic linings and copings laid only after the shell has passed its tests, with pool-grade adhesives and grouts.

  • Equipment & commissioning

Filtration, pumps and plant space installed, balanced and handed over with manuals, as-builts and a written warranty.

PROCESS

How the job runs

  1. 01

    Survey & design

We survey the site, agree the pool's type, size and finish level, and engineer the shell to the ground it will sit in.

  2. 02

    Fixed quote

An itemised written quote separating shell, waterproofing, finish and equipment — with the programme and payment stages tied to site progress.

  3. 03

    Build & test

Shell, pipework and waterproofing built by our own crews, with pressure tests and a flood test passed before finishes begin.

  4. 04

    Finish & commission

Linings, copings and equipment installed and balanced; you receive the test records, manuals and warranty at handover.

INDICATIVE PRICING

What a pool costs here

Pools vary too much for a one-line rate: the same 8-metre length can be a simple skimmer pool in stable ground or a structural overflow vessel on a slope. As a planning figure, our villa construction cost guide budgets from roughly IDR 200,000,000 for a modest 8 × 3 m pool, with its own structure, filtration and waterproofing — larger pools with terraces and external works run several times that.

What we publish instead of a rate card is the promise that matters: a fixed written quote, itemised to quantities, after a free site survey — and the number moves only if the scope moves, in writing.

FAQ

Building a pool in Bali — what owners ask

How much does a swimming pool cost in Bali?

Every pool is priced as a fixed written quote after a free site survey, because the structure, finish and equipment drive the number more than the size does. As a planning figure from our villa cost guide, a modest 8 × 3 m pool adds from roughly IDR 200,000,000 to a villa budget, with its own structure, filtration and waterproofing. The quote itemises shell, waterproofing, finish and equipment separately, so you can see where every rupiah sits.

What kind of pools do you build?

Reinforced-concrete pools — skimmer or overflow, private or shared, at ground level or structural (on villas, terraces and rooftops, like the rooftop pool at our SUOM complex). Concrete is the only system we trust long-term in Bali's ground and climate: the shell is engineered like any other structure we build, with the rebar and concrete grade stated in the quote.

How do you make sure the pool won't leak?

By treating watertightness as a test result, not a promise. The shell is cast with waterproofing designed in, every penetration is detailed and pressure-checked, and the pool is flood-tested — filled and measured over days — before any finish goes on. That sequence is exactly what our leak detection crews wish every builder had followed: most of the leaking pools we repair failed at pipework joints and penetrations that were never tested before tiling.

Can you fix or refurbish an existing pool?

Yes. If your pool is losing water, start with our pool leak detection and repair service — a survey with a written report from IDR 3,500,000 — rather than guessing. If the shell or finish has reached the end of its life, we rebuild from the structure out, with the same flood-test-before-finish discipline as a new pool.

Do you install the pool equipment too?

Yes — filtration, pumps, plumbing runs and the plant space they live in are part of the contract, sized to the pool's real volume and turnover rather than to whatever is on the shelf. You get the equipment documentation in the handover file, and our servicing team covers heated spas and hot tubs as well.
