Home cinema room construction and acoustics in Bali
Good sound is a construction outcome before it is an equipment one. A room with parallel concrete walls, a tiled floor and a glass door will humiliate any amplifier you put in it, and no amount of calibration fixes a bass leak into the bedroom next door. We build the room itself — isolation, geometry, damping, silenced cooling and the conduit for the kit — then hand it to your integrator to fill.

The division of labour is deliberate. Integrators specify and commission the electronics, and the good ones on this island do it well. What nobody can do from a rack cupboard is decouple a ceiling, move room dimensions off a modal null, build a bass trap into a soffit, or route a silenced air path so the fan coil stays inaudible during quiet dialogue. Those are wet-trade decisions, taken at drawing stage and impossible to retrofit cheaply.
So we work backwards from what the room has to achieve: a noise floor low enough that a whisper carries, reverberation around 0.3 seconds so dialogue stays intelligible, bass that stops at the wall instead of touring the house, and enough spare conduit that the next generation of cables can be pulled without opening a single panel. Then we measure the finished room and give you the numbers rather than adjectives.
Why a concrete house is a difficult room
Most buildings here are built the way this climate rewards: heavy masonry, hard plaster, stone or tile floors, large glazed openings. Every one of those choices works against a cinema. Hard parallel surfaces produce flutter echo and long reverberation that smears dialogue. Rigid masonry couples bass straight into the structure, which is why the room three doors away often hears the film more clearly than anyone would like. Glass leaks sound in both directions.
Fixing it is a build, not a purchase. We add an inner leaf on isolation so the room becomes a box touching the structure as little as possible, and choose dimensions that spread room modes instead of stacking them. Absorption goes at the first reflection points, diffusion at the rear, and the floor gets a build-up that stops footfall arriving through the slab. The result is a room already under control before a single speaker is switched on.
The tropical problems nobody mentions
A sealed acoustic room in Bali has two enemies that temperate design guides ignore. The first is cooling: the room needs it constantly, and a split unit hanging on the wall creates a noise floor no amount of treatment will hide. We put the fan coil outside the acoustic shell, feed the room through lined plenums and oversized low-velocity grilles, and cross-baffle the return so sound does not simply travel out through the duct.
The second is humidity. Fabric panels, mineral wool and timber joinery in an unventilated tropical room will grow mould inside a season if the air just sits there. So the design carries controlled fresh air and dehumidification, closed-cell materials wherever moisture is likely, and finishes chosen to be cleanable. A cinema that smells of damp after eighteen months is a construction failure, and an avoidable one.

Cinema room construction in Bali — what owners ask
Do you supply the projector, screen and speakers?
No — that is the integrator's work and we coordinate with them happily. We build the room, run the conduit, provide clean power and rack ventilation, and hand over a space that measures the way it should. If you have not chosen an integrator yet we will introduce you to ones we have worked with, but we do not sell boxes.
Will the rest of the house hear it?
That is what the isolation shell is for. Bass is the difficult part, because low frequencies travel through structure rather than air — so the more thoroughly the room is decoupled, the better the result. We agree a target at design stage and build to it, and we say plainly when a location makes it hard, a cinema directly under a bedroom being the classic case.
Can you convert an existing room?
Usually, and it is our most common job. The constraint is dimension: an inner shell takes 100 to 200 millimetres off each surface, so a small room becomes noticeably smaller. We measure first and show you what is left. Where a room is genuinely too tight, an acoustic treatment package from IDR 1,150,000 per square metre still improves it substantially.
