Glass railing and balustrade cost in Bali (2026)

A frameless glass balustrade in Bali costs from IDR 3,900,000 per metre installed with 12 mm tempered glass on stainless spigots, from IDR 4,600,000 per metre with toughened laminated glass and from IDR 5,400,000 per metre in a recessed base channel. Post-and-clamp systems with a handrail start lower, from IDR 2,650,000 per metre, and glass pool fences with a self-closing gate from IDR 4,200,000 per metre. What each system costs, why, and how to budget a terrace — below.

Prices are per running metre at a standard height of about 1.0–1.1 m, supplied and installed on a sound concrete edge with grade 304 stainless hardware; near the sea we fit 316, from IDR 1,250,000 per spigot extra. Stairs cost roughly 20–30% more per metre because every panel is cut to the rake. For comparison, simple frameless railings from local suppliers are often quoted at IDR 1.4–2.8 million per metre — usually single tempered glass on light fittings, with no check of the slab edge. Our system prices also appear on the frameless glass systems page.

Which system to choose

  • Posts and clamps with a handrail. The most economical, and the handrail does real work: it ties the panels together and gives something to hold on stairs. Less of an unbroken view.
  • Spigots. Short stainless posts bolted to the slab, each holding the bottom of the glass. The classic frameless pool-terrace look; small gaps between panels.
  • Standoffs. Stainless discs fixing the glass to the face of the slab edge, so the whole deck stays clear. Needs a deep, sound slab edge.
  • Base channel. A continuous aluminium channel recessed into the floor or fixed on top, with the glass clamped inside it. The cleanest look, the heaviest glass and the highest price.

Tempered or laminated glass for a railing

Single tempered glass is strong, but if it breaks, the panel is gone and the edge is open. Toughened laminated glass cracks and stays in place, still guarding the drop until it is replaced. For balustrades above a real drop we recommend laminated glass; tempered glass with a top rail is an acceptable alternative where budget is tight, because the rail keeps the line if a panel fails. The difference is explained in tempered vs laminated glass.

Worked example: a 12 m upper terrace

OptionGuide total for 12 m
Posts, clamps and handrail, 10 mm temperedfrom IDR 31.8 million
Spigots, 12 mm temperedfrom IDR 46.8 million
Spigots, 13.52 mm toughened laminatedfrom IDR 55.2 million
Recessed base channel, 17.52 mm toughened laminatedfrom IDR 64.8 million

Two corners, an upper floor with stairs for access and no crane — a typical villa terrace. Very long panels, curved glass or access only by hand carry along a narrow lane add to these figures.

Glass pool fences

A glass pool fence is the same frameless system at ground level, with two differences. The gate must close and latch by itself, with the latch out of a small child's reach, and the gaps between panels and under the glass must be too small for a child to squeeze through. We build pool fences from 12 mm tempered glass on 316 spigots; for villas used by families with young children we recommend laminated glass for the gate panel, which takes the most knocks. Pool fences start from IDR 4,200,000 per metre including a gate.

Stairs, corners and gates

Each change of direction costs more than its length suggests. A corner needs extra hardware and panels cut to meet cleanly; a staircase needs every panel cut to the rake and set out step by step; a gate needs hinges and a latch rated for daily use in salt air. On a typical villa terrace with a stair, the corners and stair sections add 15–25% to a quote calculated on straight runs, which is why we price from a drawing or photos rather than from a single length.

What moves the price

  • Distance from the sea. Within a kilometre or two of the beach we fit 316 stainless, from IDR 1,250,000 per spigot extra; 304 spigots stain and pit there within a couple of years.
  • The slab edge. A railing is only as strong as what it is bolted into. Thin or cracked edges need strengthening before glass goes on — we check this first.
  • Panel size and lifting. A laminated panel of 1.2 m can weigh 60–70 kg; upper floors without crane access need more hands.
  • Corners, stairs and gates. Every corner adds hardware; every stair panel is cut individually.
  • Heat-soaked glass. Recommended for tempered panels to reduce the risk of spontaneous breakage; a small extra per m².

Keeping it clear and safe

Salt and hard water leave spots on glass near the sea and the pool; fresh water and a squeegee every week or two keep it clear. Once a year, check the spigot bolts and covers and look along the bottom edge of each panel for chips — chips on tempered glass are where breakage starts. If a panel is ever cracked, keep people away from it and call us; laminated glass will hold, tempered glass will not.

FAQ

Quick answers

How much does a glass railing cost per metre in Bali?

From IDR 2,650,000 per metre for a post-and-clamp system with a handrail, from IDR 3,900,000 for frameless glass on spigots and from IDR 5,400,000 for a recessed base channel with laminated glass, supplied and installed. Near the sea add 316 stainless hardware.

Is a frameless glass balustrade safe without a handrail?

Yes, when the glass is toughened laminated, the thickness is chosen for the load and the fixings go into a sound slab edge. With single tempered glass we recommend a top rail, so the line is kept if a panel ever breaks.

304 or 316 stainless steel near the beach?

316. It contains molybdenum, which resists the chloride in sea air; 304 fittings near the coast develop brown stains and pitting within a couple of years. The upgrade costs from IDR 1,250,000 per spigot.

How long does it take to install a glass railing?

Toughened glass is made to measure, so the order follows a site measure; fabrication usually takes two to four weeks. Installation of a typical villa terrace takes one to two days.
